MILLVILLE – Fun pays a return visit to the 200 block of East Pine Street this Wednesday as the summer Play Streets program returns for the third consecutive year to Center City.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., one block of East Pine Street will be host to a day built around a “Summer Fun” theme for children and their families. First United Methodist Church and First Presbyterian Church are on either side of the block and are taking part.
The Holly City Development Corp. and the city Department of Parks and Public Property are sponsoring the program, which continues with another weekly theme every Wednesday at the same time through Aug. 15 when it culminates with a “Back to School BBQ.”
Samantha Cruz, Parks and Property’s supervisor, said her department is the sponsor for the opening week.
“We’re making bird feeders,” Cruz said. “I’ll have some of my personnel there. I told the guys, ‘Let them know you’re the park guys.' We need help at the parks cleaning up.”
Cruz said a rock painting and a dunk tank also are planned, though who goes in the tank is still unknown. Millville Municipal Alliance will be there with an ice cone machine, too.
The summer schedule for Play Streets, which launched here in 2016, and each week’s theme is as follows. Every week has a different sponsoring organization.
July 11 - Summer Fun.
July 18 - Health and Wellness.
July 25 - Public Safety.
August 1 - Arts and Culture.
August 8 - Surf’s Up!
August 15 - Back to School BBQ.
